The 2009 Tahoe Rim Trail 50K/50M/100M Endurance Runs will be presented on July 18th and 19th by the Sagebrush Stompers (Carson City, NV) and the Tahoe Mountain Milers (Lake Tahoe, USA) running clubs at beautiful Lake Tahoe, Nevada. This year’s event will serve as the 2009 USA Track & Field 100-mile Trail Championship In addition, the event will also serve as the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) 100-Mile National Ultra Championship and the RRCA Nevada State 50-Mile and 50K State Championships.
The 50K course is a combination of dirt roads, single-track trails and long segments of the world famous Tahoe Rim Trail. Although the course is challenging (6,895 foot elevation gain and loss and altitudes ranging from 6,800’ to 9,000’) it showcases some incredibly scenic panoramas of the Lake Tahoe Basin, Marlette Lake, and the Washoe Valley. The 50-mile course adds a 9 ½ mile out-and-back (18 mile total) to the 50K course, which increases the elevation gain/loss to 9,984’. The 100-mile event is a double loop of the 50-mile course. The elevation gain and loss in the 100-mile event is nearly 20,000’ each. Runners will have 35 hours to complete the course.
This year’s overall 100-mile men’s and women’s winners of the USA Track & Field National 100-mile championship will receive $1000 each. The top ten men and women USA Track & Field runners will receive overall medals. Additionally, the top three finishers in each five year age division starting at 40 years of age will also receive medals.
RRCA open, masters and seniors winners will each receive a plaque from the RRCA and each 100-mile, 50-mile and 50K men’s and women’s winners will receive a personalized performance jacket embroidered with the event logo, their name and “2009 RRCA Champion” for their respective distances.
This year’s 100-mile field includes both experienced retunees and newcomers including men’s competitors Jamie Dial, Jon Olsen, Jason Ostron, Erik Skaden, and Ian Torence, while the field is wide-open in the women’s race where a first-time National Champion will be crowned.
All 100-mile finishers will receive a hand crafted belt buckle. There are three finisher buckles; sub-24 hour, sub-30 hour and sub-35 hour. The sub-24 hour will be a nickel buckle with a gold plated silver commemorative medallion inset in the belt (both sides are be visible). The sub-30 hour buckle is the same but the medallion will be silver. The sub-35 hour buckle will be bronze with the silver medallion. All 50K and 50-mile runners finishing first in their respective age divisions will receive the same commemorative silver medallion which bares the event “trail shoe” logo on one side and the Great Seal of the State of Nevada on the other. The Tahoe Rim Trail 50/50M/100M Endurance Runs Commemorative Event Medallion was struck on Coin Press Number One at the former U.S. Branch Mint in Carson City, Nevada.

Just a couple questions about the event. How much does it cost to enter? How many entrants to you expect, and do some people who are the elite trail runners get thier fee waved too?
Coach Tief:
Those are all excellent questions for the race director (David Cotter). His email address is on the race website located at: http://www.tahoemtnmilers.org/trt50/index.html
Okay, we saw a news programme about the winner of your race this year. My family is arguing about whether or not the runners sleep or not during the race.
Do you have any information about whether they do or not?
I don’t think that most ultra runners sleep during races. Race director David Cotter could provide a definitive answer – it’s his race, not mine.

Thank-you! :]
