Well, not exactly a Mountain run….but I went to the summit of Mauna Kea which is called (by some) the highest peak in the world when measured from base to summit. It is 33,000 feet from the ocean floor to the top of the peak. My running right now is confined to pool and pond running while my broken sacrum heals. Mauna Kea is the highest point on Hawaii. It is the highest I’ve ever gone, and not that I’m counting, but it is my 9th state high point and my 49th county high point. More pics and stuff can be found at my personal blog.
Cheers,

But did you get up at 4 AM, and drive up in time to watch the sun come up?
Pool running works, and that photo is clearly a good place to do it!
Awesome place on big island. A few years ago I did sea to summit of Mauna Kea. Dipped borrowed mt bike in Hilo Harbor at 5:30 am and rode up through fog and much rain to saddle and on to lower observatory at about 9,000′ finally above clouds. Ran a couple of miles on dirt road switch backs then straight up trail to summit paved observatory area then down and up the small summit cinder cone to enjoy a Mauna Kea Pale Ale on summit. Major views. Also did Mauna Loa crossing with friends a couple years later starting above town of Volcano about 6,000′. Up and over summit and down to waiting truck in parking area ~11,000′ with cold ones awaiting. Heal well in paradise and enjoy the coffee. TB
Great story! I wish I could’ve biked or run or ANYTHING other than the pool. Sunset was awesome. Many years ago (1987) I saw sunrise on Haleakela, the high point on Maui.
