It was the eve of the Barr Trail Mountain Race,
And all was calm around the place,
As racers planned to run their best,
A little faster than all the rest,
With Matt the man, at forty-three,
All set to leave some dust for thee,
And he’ll probably even be there waitin’,
At the finish line, for that youngster, Payton,
And Daryn Parker, my pick for third,
Will barely finish without a word,
When Johnny Tribbia, fresh from Vail,
Will stumble in right on his trail,
And then Dave Mackey, feeling fit,
Will outrun Mike Selig to land in fifth.
The women’s race will never bore ya’,
But the winner will be a girl named Laura,
And then behind her, two more masters,
A fight for second, who will be faster,
Susan Nuzum or Lisa Marie?
I think it’ll be some fun to see,
And then comes Kelli Lusk a’jammin’,
With Leighan Lawrentz right there hammerin’.
And there’s top five, and maybe six,
That’s my guess, what are your picks?
Men’s: 1. Matt Carpenter 2. Payton Batliner 3. Daryn Parker 4. John Tribbia 5. Dave Mackey 6. Mike Selig
Women’s: 1. Laura Haefli 2. Lisa Goldsmith 3. Susan Nuzum 4. Kelli Lusk 5. Leighann Lawrentz

Great post BB. And where do you see yourself falling into that mix?
I regret I am not going to be there!

With poetry so stunning my rational mind is unable to function well enough to formulate an answer!
Picking Matt won’t win however, is never a good idea, especially on his home turf, which he defends like a badger.
And Laura is dominant, even if she is saving herself for the Selection race at Vail next weekend.
Lisa Gee is fit, though she is training for PPA, and will take it easy on the downhill. Susan beat her at Mt Evans, but is not known for her technical descending, so that match is a toss-up.
Dave Mackey is a great runner, especially on the technical descents, so he needs to be up there.
All in all … nothing to argue with! Good job!

8 months later, I just found your poetic predictions, Buzz. Priceless!
Your predictions were pretty close.
Matt burnt us all, just like toast.
